Mind Reader 04:05
We’re disconnected We don’t know how to talk anymore I got the message Let’s not dance around it You’re saying nothing just to settle the score With a heart of stone Leave me guessing where we stand Living in this world of uncertainty I can’t take no more If you’re gonna go Then you aught to go now Don’t say another word If it’s really over Chorus: Look into your crystal ball Tell me what do you see I can’t wait around The future’s cold enough Now you’re freezing me out And you’re all alone I’m not a mind reader Mind reader Tried to read the signs from you lately But I’m not a mind reader I don’t need you to show me what the future holds You’re the one with the crystal ball anyway Gonna leave the city Driving to the glow of a crescent moon Headed for the forest Gonna take a trip And I feel like dancing And I feel like dancing And I feel like I'm the only one in the room When the trip is ending I start to think of you and, well (Chorus) La la la la la lala (oh why) (oh why) If we're gonna try it again It better be the last time Cuz I can't take much more of this Up and down and round and round and round (Chorus)

about

“Mind Reader” is the latest single from Philadelphia based artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Vincent John. This infectious song was recorded entirely to 8-track tape at Vincent’s studio Eraserhood Sound, and is a nostalgic, minimalist synth-driven funk/R&B gem reminiscent of the Purple One himself, Prince.

Hot off the heels of his last single “Rosy Light,” Vincent continues his streak of deeply personal, confessional songwriting. On “Mind Reader” he is seeking escape and solace from the turmoils of a relationship. He sardonically asks his romantic foil to “look into your crystal, tell me what do you see…” and then immediately makes clear that he won’t wait around for the answer. By the song’s climactic bridge, he cries out that “if we’re gonna try it again, this better be the last time.” All the while, a raging guitar solo puts an exclamation point on Vincent's impassioned plea.

After nearly a decade of writing and recording for soulful artists like Lee Fields, Nicole Wray and more, Vincent John has truly carved out his own space in the modern music landscape, crafting a vintage sound that still pushes the boundaries of R&B, synth pop, and New Wave.
